Welcome to the Madison Japan Association web site

MJA (Madison Japan Association) is an organization for Japanese people who live in the Madison, Wisconsin, area as well as anyone who is interested in Japan. MJA dates back to half a century ago. Some students and researchers from Japan were already involved in our organization even before World War II, but the direct origin related to our current MJA can be traced back to 1956. Our original name was "Madison Japanese Association" in the beginning, but we changed our name to the current one, because we realized that all members were not necessarily Japanese. Currently, MJA has about 200 members.

As part of our activities, MJA not only publishes an annual membership directory and hand book, but holds some events including picnics and welcome parties to promote friendship among our members. Also, we occasionally hold some panel discussions and lectures by guest speakers on topics relating to Japan. We look forward to having strong participation by our members. We also greatly welcome anyone who would like to volunteer for their help.

If you have any questions about MJA, please contact MJA officers via e-mail, which is shown in the bottom of this page. We appreciate if you refrain from contacting individual officers.

If you would like to become an MJA member or renew your membership, check out our Join page for more information. Please feel free to contact any of the officers if you have additional questions.
